I am a consultant cardiologist and cardiac electrophysiologist based in South London. I am a general cardiologist and heart rhythm specialist with specialist expertise in treating all aspects of heart rhythm problems. I offer treatments including device implants – pacemakers, defibrillators, cardiac resynchronisation therapy, as well as catheter ablation for all heart rhythm problems including SVT, Ectopic beats, Atrial Fibrillation, Atrial Flutter and Ventricular Tachycardia.

I grew up in South London and graduated from St. George’s University of London with distinction. I trained in general medicine and cardiology in hospitals across London, Surrey and the South of England. I also studied for a postdoctoral degree during my training, working on new way  to locate the origin of heart rhythm problems in a more accurate and efficient way. I have published many research articles in journals in the field including Circulation Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology, Heart Rhythm Journal and Europace amongst others.

My last few years in training were dedicated to specialising in treating heart rhythm problems, working at both King’s College London and St. George’s Hospital. In addition to this I worked at a prestigious centre in the US-the UCLA cardiac arrhythmia centre in Los Angeles where I learnt advanced techniques for the management of life-threatening heart rhythms, techniques that aren’t widely available throughout the UK. This has meant that I can now offer certain patients additional options for treatments where standard ones have been unsuccessful.

I’m actively involved in research and education for trainee cardiologists. Research is extremely important to push our work further, as it is the forefront of practicing medicine and brings patients the treatments they so desperately need, sooner. It has also been shown that centres heavily involved in research provide better care to their patients. I am currently supervising a PhD student for the investigation and use of software using computer modelling to predict the site of life-threatening heart problems as part of the Advanced Ventricular Arrhythmia Training and Research (AVATAR) programme, alongside my colleague Dr Magdi Saba.  We are extremely proud of this initiative as it can create an international ripple effect - we can impact and improve the outcomes of patients all over the world. We can train the next generation of cardiologists in these advanced techniques so that they can offered to patients all around the world, who desperately need more treatment options.

Dr Li – more than 15 months have passed since I had the AF ablation. I have expressed my enormous gratitude to you for this procedure last time we spoke on the phone. Still I would like to take this opportunity to thank you sincerely again for you and your team’s hard work and wish you good health, joy and satisfaction.”
